Conditions Our West Kelowna Chiropractors Commonly Assess & Treat
Chiropractors are trained to assess and manage a wide range of conditions involving the joints, muscles and nervous system. Treatment recommendations depend on your diagnosis, health history and individual presentation.
Back Pain
Low back pain can be related to many different structures and factors, including joints, muscles, discs, activity levels, repetitive loading and movement habits.
Our chiropractors begin with an assessment to better understand the source of your symptoms before recommending treatment. Depending on the findings, care may include chiropractic adjustments, mobilization, soft tissue therapy, flexion-distraction, exercise and movement rehabilitation.
Neck Pain & Stiffness
Neck pain can develop gradually from prolonged positions and repetitive strain or occur more suddenly following an injury.
Treatment may include joint mobilization or manipulation, soft tissue therapy, mobility exercises and rehabilitation designed around the findings of your assessment.
Headaches
Some headaches can be associated with the neck and surrounding muscles and joints. These are often referred to as cervicogenic headaches.
If your headache presentation appears musculoskeletal in nature, your chiropractor may use a combination of manual therapy, joint treatment, soft tissue techniques and exercise. Headaches can have many causes, so appropriate assessment is an important first step.
Sciatica & Radiating Leg Pain
Pain, tingling or other symptoms that travel from the low back or hip into the leg may have several possible causes.
Your chiropractor can perform a neurological and musculoskeletal assessment to help determine what may be contributing to your symptoms and whether chiropractic care is appropriate. Treatment may incorporate manual therapy, flexion-distraction, mobility work and individualized exercises.
Disc-Related Back & Neck Pain
Disc-related conditions can present differently from person to person. Symptoms may include localized back or neck pain, stiffness or symptoms that travel into an arm or leg.
Our chiropractors assess your movement, neurological function and clinical presentation before determining the appropriate treatment approach. McKenzie-based exercises, flexion-distraction, manual therapy and rehabilitation may be incorporated when appropriate.
Shoulder Pain
Shoulder problems can involve the rotator cuff, tendons, joints, muscles and surrounding structures.
Our chiropractors treat more than the spine. A shoulder assessment may evaluate mobility, strength and function through the shoulder, neck and upper body before developing a treatment plan.
Hip & Knee Pain
Hip and knee pain can affect walking, running, sport and everyday activities.
Chiropractic treatment may include assessment of the involved joint as well as surrounding mobility, strength and movement patterns. Manual therapy, soft tissue techniques and rehabilitation may be incorporated depending on the diagnosis.
Foot & Ankle Pain
Our chiropractors also assess foot and ankle conditions, including activity-related injuries and persistent musculoskeletal complaints.
Treatment may include manual therapy, rehabilitation and, where appropriate, assessment for custom orthotics.
TMJ & Jaw Pain
Jaw pain and temporomandibular joint dysfunction can sometimes involve the jaw muscles, TMJ and surrounding neck structures.
Our chiropractors can assess musculoskeletal contributors to jaw discomfort and determine whether manual therapy, soft tissue treatment or other conservative care may be appropriate.
Sports Injuries
From recreational athletes and weekend warriors to competitive athletes, our chiropractors work with people who want to recover from injury and return to activity.
We assess not just where it hurts, but how the affected area moves and functions. Treatment can combine manual therapy with progressive rehabilitation to help restore mobility, strength and confidence.
Motor Vehicle Accident Injuries
Motor vehicle accidents can lead to neck pain, back pain, headaches, stiffness and other musculoskeletal symptoms.
Okanagan Integrative Health provides chiropractic care for eligible ICBC patients and can help guide you through the treatment process following an accident.
Chiropractic Treatments at Okanagan Integrative Health
There is no single technique that is right for every patient. Your chiropractor will select treatment approaches based on your assessment, diagnosis, preferences and goals.
Chiropractic Adjustments
Chiropractic manipulation involves a controlled movement applied to a joint to help improve mobility and function. Our chiropractors use a variety of adjustment styles and adapt treatment to the individual patient.
Joint Mobilization
Not every joint needs to be adjusted. Lower-force mobilization techniques can also be used to improve movement and are useful when a gentler approach is preferred.
Myofascial & Soft Tissue Therapy
Muscles and connective tissues often contribute to pain, stiffness and restricted movement.
Hands-on soft tissue treatment may be incorporated into your chiropractic appointment to address areas of tension or restriction alongside joint treatment and rehabilitation.
Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Therapy
Specialized instruments may be used to assess and treat areas of soft tissue restriction. These techniques can be incorporated into care for muscles, tendons and other connective tissues when appropriate.
Dynamic Cupping
Dynamic cupping combines cups with movement or hands-on treatment to address muscular and fascial tension.
It may be incorporated into a broader chiropractic treatment depending on your presentation and treatment goals.
Flexion-Distraction
Flexion-distraction uses a specialized chiropractic table to provide controlled movement and distraction through the spine.
This lower-force technique may be incorporated into treatment for certain low-back and spinal presentations.
McKenzie Method
McKenzie-based assessment and exercises use repeated movements and specific positions to help guide the management of certain neck, back and disc-related presentations.
When appropriate, your chiropractor may incorporate these exercises into your home-care or rehabilitation program.
Movement-Based Rehabilitation
We don't want treatment to end when you leave the treatment room.
Our chiropractors may prescribe mobility, strength or movement exercises designed around your assessment and goals. Okanagan Integrative Health also has a dedicated rehabilitation space that allows us to integrate active care into treatment when appropriate.
Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave therapy uses acoustic energy directed into targeted musculoskeletal tissues. It may be considered for certain persistent tendon and soft tissue conditions.
Conditions commonly considered for shockwave therapy include:
- Plantar fasciitis
- Achilles tendinopathy
- Tennis elbow and golfer's elbow
- Patellar tendon complaints
- Calcific shoulder tendinopathy
- Selected persistent muscle and tendon injuries
Your chiropractor will assess whether shockwave therapy is appropriate for your condition before recommending treatment.

- Low back discomfort
- Hip or pelvic discomfort
- Muscular tension

Your chiropractor will discuss your health history and pregnancy before determining an appropriate approach to care.
Pediatric Chiropractic Care
Children aren't simply smaller adults, and chiropractic assessment and treatment should reflect that.
Our chiropractors use age-appropriate assessment and gentler treatment approaches when working with infants and children. The technique and amount of force used are modified according to the child's age, size and clinical presentation.
Parents are encouraged to ask questions and be actively involved in decisions regarding their child's care.
Custom Orthotics
Your feet influence how you stand, walk and move.
Okanagan Integrative Health offers custom orthotics following an individualized assessment. A mold of your feet is used to create an orthotic designed around your foot structure and support needs.
Orthotics may be considered for certain foot and lower-extremity concerns, including:
- Plantar fasciitis
- Flat feet
- High arches
- Heel discomfort
- Gait-related concerns
Insurance coverage varies between plans, and some insurers require a prescription from a medical doctor or podiatrist.
